How Much Does a Gaztelugatxe Tour From Bilbao Cost?

Gaztelugatxe tours from Bilbao start at about $49 for a six-hour trip and run past $900 for a private day. What each price covers, and the tours we would book.

Updated October 2026

Gaztelugatxe tours from Bilbao start at about $49 for a six-hour trip and reach about $900 for a private day, and every price on this page is per person. Most travellers choose between $49 and $78, where the differences are the length of the day, the size of the group and whether you finish with a tasting or a lunch.

The main differences

  • A good all-round choice: the ten-hour Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Mundaka, Gernika and wine tour, from $66, rated 4.7 from more than 3,200 reviews.
  • The lowest price that still reaches the islet is $49. The six-hour Mundaka and Gernika trip includes the entry ticket and is rated 4.7 from more than 2,400 reviews. It costs $17 less than the ten-hour tour above.
  • Above $78 the tours change in kind. Smaller groups, hotel pickup, lunch or a private vehicle replace the coach, and most of the tours up there have very few reviews.
  • Every price is per person. At the starting price, two people pay $98 for the $49 trip and four pay $196. A private tour does not get cheaper as the group grows.
  • Lunch is rarely included. The coach tours leave food to you, and only the dearer food-led tours cover a meal, from a pintxo and a drink to a six-course lunch.
  • Entry to Gaztelugatxe is free. The official site asks for a free timed ticket on controlled-access days, so what you pay for is the transport, the guide and the rest of the route.

What does a Gaztelugatxe tour from Bilbao cost?

Between $49 and $78 for a day in a group, and between $250 and $900 once lunch, wine or a private vehicle is part of the package. All of them leave from Bilbao, and the table further down lists every one with its rating.

Around $49 to $67: group days by minibus or coach. The six-hour Mundaka and Gernika trip is $49 and the ten-hour coach tour with the txakoli tasting is $66, so the extra four hours and Bermeo cost $17. The six-hour Bermeo and Gernika trip is $67 and is rated 4.3 from more than 600 reviews.

Around $78 to $107: smaller groups, a long lunch or a walk. The nine-hour Bermeo and Gernika day trip is $78 and leaves 105 minutes in Bermeo for lunch. The 3.5-hour small-group coast walk is also $78 and is rated 4.9 from more than 240 reviews. The four-hour Basque Coast tour is $107 with hotel pickup included, and the Gaztelugatxe and San Sebastian day trip is $106 with pintxos in San Sebastian, although it has only nine reviews.

Around $250 to $620: a meal, a tasting or a city added. The txakoli wine day trip ($252) includes lunch and a winery visit, the Gaztelugatxe and Bilbao day trip ($256) adds a guided walk through the city, the private Gaztelugatxe and San Sebastian tour ($381) adds a pintxos lunch, and the tasting-menu tour ($616) serves a six-course lunch. None of them has more than a handful of reviews yet.

From $439: a private vehicle. The private Basque Coast tour ($439) has one review so far, and the private Bizkaia Bridge, Gernika, Bermeo and Gaztelugatxe tour ($911) has none.

Which Gaztelugatxe tour would we book?

Our pick is the ten-hour Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Mundaka, Gernika and wine tour, from $66. It costs $1 less than the six-hour Bermeo trip, it has by far the longest review history of any tour here (more than 3,200 reviews at 4.7), and it is the only one that includes a txakoli tasting. Access to the islet is part of the booking, you share an air-conditioned coach with a group, and it leaves from the Puppy sculpture outside the Guggenheim. The operator says the order of stops can change with the access slot, so the winery sometimes comes before lunch rather than after it. There is no lunch in the price. Our tour review covers the day stop by stop.

Our lower-cost pick is the six-hour Mundaka and Gernika trip, from $49. It includes the entry ticket, runs in a private air-conditioned vehicle and gives two guided hours at the islet, which is more than the ten-hour tour. Hotel pickup comes with its private and small-group options but not with the cheapest bilingual group option. If you have only a morning and an early afternoon to spare, this is the one.

For a proper lunch, the nine-hour Bermeo and Gernika day trip ($78, rated 4.8 from more than 800 reviews) gives you 105 free minutes in Bermeo with the guide’s seafood and pintxo suggestions. It has no hotel pickup, and you need to reach one of two meeting points on time.

If you would rather be home before lunch, the Basque Coast walk ($78) is a small-group morning with entrance included. If the 241 steps put you off, the four-hour coastal tour ($107, rated 4.9 from more than 90 reviews) includes hotel pickup and is a young listing, so read the recent reviews. Our tour comparison goes through the steps and the viewpoint in more detail.

We would skip the six-hour Bermeo and Gernika trip at $67: the ten-hour tour costs $1 less and is rated higher, and the Mundaka trip costs $18 less.

A private vehicle makes sense only when the schedule is the point. The private Basque Coast tour costs $439 per person, so a party of four pays $1,756, and it lists entrance fees as excluded. It has a single review, 5.0, so book it for the flexibility and hotel pickup rather than for a track record.

Prices checked 9 October 2026. Operators use dynamic pricing, so these figures are a guide; check the booking page for the current price. The ten-hour tour showed $51 on 4 October and $66 on 9 October. Every tour is linked, with its rating and review count beside it, and a low review count is a warning rather than a verdict. Tours that do not go to Gaztelugatxe, or that start in another city, are left out.

What changes as the price goes up?

Mostly the size of the group and what is eaten along the way. The coach and minibus days at $49 to $78 share a group with other travellers and leave lunch to you, while the tours that add food start at $106, and from $250 the groups are small or private.

Hotel pickup follows the price loosely. The $66, $67 and nine-hour $78 group days start from a fixed meeting point, and the six-hour $49 trip offers pickup only on its private and small-group options. The four-hour coastal tour and every tour from $250 up collect you from your hotel.

Time at the islet hardly follows the price at all. The itineraries give about 110 minutes on the $66 ten-hour tour, two hours on the $49 six-hour trip and about 90 minutes on the $78 walk. Paying more does not get you a different view of Gaztelugatxe. It changes how many people you share the day with, how many villages you visit and whether lunch is included.

What the tour price leaves out

Lunch and drinks are your own cost on the coach and minibus tours, so budget for a meal in Bermeo or Mundaka. Entrance to Gaztelugatxe itself is free, and the Bizkaia government’s page asks for a free timed ticket only on controlled-access days. Two of the private tours list entrance fees as excluded, which for Gaztelugatxe means arranging that free ticket yourself. Our tickets and reservations guide explains how.

Tips are not in any price, and the txakoli day trip lists them as excluded.

Should you pay more?

For most people, no. The $66 and $78 days already include access, a guide and the three villages, and the dearer tours are mainly for travellers who want lunch included, a small group or a car to themselves. If that describes you, the $106 to $107 tours are the first to look at, and the tours from $250 up are better booked once they have a few reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Gaztelugatxe tour from Bilbao?

Group tours start at about $49 per person for six hours and about $66 for the ten-hour day with Bermeo, Mundaka, Gernika and a txakoli tasting. Private and food-led tours run from about $250 to about $900.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person on every tour listed here, including the private ones. A private tour for four people at $439 each costs $1,756 at the starting price.

Do I pay to enter Gaztelugatxe on a tour?

No. Entry to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is free, and the Bizkaia government asks for a free timed ticket on controlled-access days. Most of the tours here include that access in the booking, and two of the private tours list entrance fees as excluded.

Is lunch included?

On the coach and minibus tours it is not. The wine day trip, the Bilbao day trip, the San Sebastian combinations and the tasting-menu tour include a meal or part of one.

Why does the price change from one day to the next?

Operators run discounts and change prices by date and group size, and the price shown is the lowest available. The ten-hour tour moved from $51 to $66 in five days, so check the booking page for your date.

Should you book a private tour?

Only if hotel pickup and your own schedule matter more than the fare. The private Basque Coast tour at $439 has one review so far, and a shared seat on a tour with thousands of reviews costs a fraction of it.
